Tips & Tricks: May 2025

Hey there everyone, how is your May going so far? Are you being creative or is the weather distracting you to other things? I tend to find that creative people are gardeners, outdoorsy kinds of folk and so when the weather here in the UK gets better, it’s hard to find time for your painting.

This month I really challenged myself with the Tips video. As the theme for the month is Flower & Fruit Studies, I didn’t want to do just any old combination, I wanted some thing different and as I tend to avoid still life, this was the perfect opportunity to have a stiff word with myself and find a way of making it more exciting. I actually really loved doing this painting, maybe because it was a combination of Pastelmat surface and pastel pencils which I love but I enjoyed the colour combinations too. I’ve always said that I’m not an orange person but as I sit here writing this, I’m actually wearing an orange outfit so perhaps this video has inspired me to branch out with my colour selection?
